I realized long ago that art is something I must do even during the most difficult or busy times. Over the past several years I have been concentrating on painting the natural beauty of the California countryside. I find that when I get outside and spend time deeply looking, which is a requirement for good painting, the landscape becomes a part of who I am and this brings me peace. I use watercolor and gouache to depict my emotional response to a place. My paintings may contain hard edged or architectural elements, but are tempered by nature’s random and tenacious energy.
